About Us
Institute of Physical Culture is one of the oldest and heritage Institute of Kolkata was established 87 years back by the inspiration of a great educationist at the same time a devotee freedom fighter late Gosto Behari Mukherjee and by the active participation of Late Bipra Pada Ram & others on 13th August 1929 at 16, Ananda Gopal Palit Road, known as Munshibari. Later it was renumbered by K.M.C. as 49, Ananda Palrt Road, Entally, Kolkata-700014.
It is remarkable that Entally Academy, center for excellence in education, during that period was also established in the same building by Late Gosto Behari Mukherjee.
The time was a transitional period for Bengal, leader in the fight for freedom in India. At one end it was Swami Vivekananda, the symbol of youth power & his "Call to the Nation" & at the other end British ruled India's tremendous hunger for freedom. Need of the time was physically & mentally strong educated youth power.

At this juncture of time took birth I.O.P.C. to provide Bengal and at the same time India, Physically & mentally irony strong youths to fight against British Rulers for freedom.
Shortly due to the shortage of space it was first shifted to the arena of Entally PS. by the courtesy of the then O.C. and then it was permanently shifted to the present address 49, Ananda Palit Road, Kolkata-700014 at its own land.
We the present members of the institute are highly obligated to the pioneers who established this Institute with their continuous and tireless efforts throughout their lives. We are fortunate enough to have few dedicated persons in every next generation to carry on the flag high.
* We dream of the gen. next who along with building good physic or taking part in fitness and other activities will also work in the field of social and cultural activities amongst all classes of people in the society to spread our sphere all around.
"For I.O.P.C
